Glass Houses
Our guide to selecting the right glass style for your outdoor lighting.

The style of glass used in an outdoor fixture can enhance your home’s exterior by providing dramatic effects and stylistic consistency. Many popular styles provide an antique look, while others provide a sleek, contemporary vision.
Hammered Glass
To get a banged-up, antique look, glassblowers can shape glass around a mold and then run it through an optic box, which sets in a “hammered” pattern. The look can also be achieved via sandblasting.
Seedy Glass
This style of glass contains trapped air bubbles and / or particles, which provide an interesting light diffusion.
Water Glass
After it is shaped, glass is passed through rollers which produce a shimmering, wave-like effect in the hardened glass.
Tiffany-Style or Mission-Style Glass
Similar to interior desk and floor lamps, color glass in various decorative patterns is used to create eye-pleasing effects.
Alabaster Glass
Fashioned to look like alabaster marble, this glass produces a diffuse, soft glow that has an appealingly understated look.
Frosted Glass
Seen in many modern and contemporary fixtures, this glass is sandblasted or coated to achieve a flat, overall glow effect when illuminated.
